Hi, I am Kai Hui (Khloe)! I am a Taipei-based journalist and producer. My core interests include gender / sexuality, decolonisation, and the intersections of technology and society.

I hold a double major in Philosophy and Communication from National Chung Cheng University and a master’s degree in Inter-Asian Cultural Studies from National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan).

My journalism career began at CivilMedia@TW, before I joined Malaysiakini, the leading independent media outlet in Malaysia. I previously served as an editor for This Is Southeast Asia, assisted the founding of the Malaysia and Singapore editions, supporting young writers to tell stories in their first language. I also produced a current-affairs talk show CONNECTED for TaiwanPlus, the English international channel under Taiwanese Public Television.

Apart from covering major political developments at the front line, I developed feature stories focused on gender, sexuality, the environment, labour, and cultural identity. My reporting has received significant recognition, including the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award. Besides, our collective data storytelling work was recognised by nominations from the SOPA Award for Public Service Journalism and the Sigma Award.

Beyond the newsroom, I continue to write as an independent journalist and columnist. Her work has appeared in publications including BBC, UDN Global (Taiwan), Linking Vision (Taiwan), Missing Perspectives (Australia), and Malaysiakini (Malaysia).

Outside of journalism, I enjoy exploring different creative forms. I directed and edited several short documentaries, I've written some songs, and now taking some baby steps to experiment non-fiction work through illustration.
